Happy New Year! As we move into 2025, a new year, I’m sure many of us must have set up several goals for this year. I mean, we always do this; it’s a fresh start after all. Making money online has been possible since the early days of the internet, but it’s become easier as the years went by, and in 2025, you can make an honest side income by just expressing yourself. Yes, it’s super-duper easy and 100% possible.
Monetize on X (formerly known as Twitter)
While there are several ways to make money online, X has emerged as the leading platform to monetize your thoughts, opinions, and personality. You may think that this is like becoming an influencer and making money online, but it’s not.
An influencer needs to be very careful and politically correct in order to maintain the audience they have built over the years. Whereas, on X, you can just be yourself and engage with the content you like or dislike and still make an honest side income. I’ve been trying to get monetized on Twitter for the last 2 weeks, and let me share a few tips so that you guys can monetize at a lightning-fast rate.
X Monetization Criteria
To monetize on X, you need:
- 500 premium followers.
- At least 5 million impressions on your posts within the last 3 months.
- Verification by subscribing to Premium.
I think this should be a good time to inform you guys that subscribing to Premium via the website (x.com) is cheaper compared to subscribing via the app. This is because when you subscribe via the app, X gets charged for the platform fee (Google Play or App Store), which is passed on to you.
It’s cost-effective to subscribe to Premium via x.com.
How To Achieve Monetization on X
Become a “Reply Guy”
Well, what’s working very well today is “being a reply guy.” If you don’t meet the criteria for monetization yet, it is advised to be a reply guy instead of creating your own posts on X. It’s simple logic: accounts that are massive constantly keep posting content. Your reply to that content, whether honest, witty, satire, sarcastic, or controversial, will get more attention due to the massive reach of that account.
All you need to do is spend 1-2 hours a day on X replying on timelines. When I started, I found it difficult to stay on X for 1-2 hours a day and keep replying, but I personally found several massive (aka popular) accounts that post content I like to watch:
- Funny Cat Videos
- Epic Fails
- Anime Discussions
- Funny Dog Videos
- Random Funny Videos
There’s so much on X that there’s something for everyone. Trust me, you’ll be addicted to it, but for the first time in your life, your addiction will generate a decent side income for you. Isn’t the thought wonderful? Get entertained and get rewarded at the same time. It’s PERFECT!
How To Gain Followers on X
Ever since X decided to reward its users for content/engagement, there are several communities and people who are willing to follow-for-follow. Simple, isn’t it? You follow me, and I’ll do the same. I have been at it for the last 2 weeks (didn’t take the first week seriously, though), and I managed to gain over 150 followers within 14 days!
I’m a numbers guy, so let’s break it down. If you’re spending 1-2 hours a day on X, you can easily manage to get a minimum of 20-60 followers per day. So in about 10–25 days, you should have reached the 500 verified followers criteria.
PRO TIP: Don’t just keep following all day long. If you don’t engage and just keep following accounts, you’ll get suspended for a while.

How To Gain 5 Million Impressions on X
Now here is the tricky part. If you’re not willing to subscribe to Premium yet, it’s going to get very difficult for you to get 5 million impressions within 3 months. It’s the honest truth.
When you subscribe to Premium or Premium+, you get a visibility boost. Simply put, when people scroll in the comments section, they can find your reply and engage with you (like, comment, or retweet), whereas if you’re not subscribed to one of the premiums, your comment gets buried down deep.
It doesn’t mean that you have to take up Premium or Premium+ from the start, but you’ll simply have to invest more time into the platform (maybe 2-4 hours a day).
You need to get 55,555 impressions per day consecutively for 90 days to achieve the goal of 5 million impressions. It all depends on how serious you are about making money from X. At times, you get really lucky, and a single comment you made ends up generating over 500K+ impressions within 1-2 days. Sometimes your comments won’t even touch 100 impressions.
Since I have been tweeting for the last 2 weeks, let me share what’s worked for me so far.
Trending News, Funny Videos, and More
It shouldn’t come to you as a surprise that X is the #1 leading news platform in 2025. It’s crazy how fast news travels on X. I have known the news before it even hit the legacy news channels. If you’re someone who wants to keep themselves updated with what’s going on around you, X is the best and fastest platform for you. Engage with the news by sharing your thoughts, opinion or emotion after reading it and engage in a discussion with like minded people.
Coming to funny videos, there are a lot of crazy people online. You’ll be amazed. If you think you’ve seen it all, you’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg. There are a few comments I made on such videos and generated thousands of impressions with a single comment.
The point is, you just need to be yourself and express it the way you normally do. You don’t really need to think of how your audience would react because there’s always an audience for you. You will comment on something that will always resonate with others.
I love the fact that I can always find content on X depending upon my mood on a particular day. But the best part is that I get to make friends far away who would have been besties if not for us both living on different continents.

Of course, I’ve shared some of my best tweets here with reach in thousands, but I assure you, there are several which didn’t even reach 50. But that’s okay; I said what I wanted to (expressed myself), and that’s enough for me.
How Much Money Can I Make on X
After you qualify for monetization, the metric that will determine your payout is “engagement rate.” So what’s engagement rate? Simply put – if others like, retweet, or comment on your posts, it’s considered engagement. If anyone comments on your comment, try to reply back to them. Keep the conversations going if possible.
Depending upon your engagement rate, you can make $10 – $4000 every two week. YES, you read that right, EVERY TWO WEEK! How much more awesome can it get?
I see several people posting their payouts each week, and they’ve grown from $10 to between $100 – $200 by the 3rd to the 4th week after monetization. Don’t take my word for it; hop onto the platform and see for yourself.
Can I Quit My 9-5 Job And Become A Full-Time Creator On X?
NO! Do not do that! Let me tell you why.
A few years ago, several individuals quit their 9-5 jobs and became bloggers. It was the early age of the internet, and money was being thrown around by companies who wanted to run ads to generate more business. It was the golden era for bloggers to make money online via advertisements. They had the audience these companies wanted to target, and the companies were willing to pay a lot of dollars to attract the attention of such audiences until Google pulled the carpet from under these creators.
Since September of 2022, small publishers (bloggers) are on a steep decline. Google is favoring big/established brands by ranking them higher on the search results page and burying the OG content creators on the 2nd page (or even lower) or out of the index completely. I won’t get too technical on this, but trust me, never put all your eggs in one basket. Even if you’re making a lot more than your 9-5 job, don’t quit until you’ve re-invested that income into another viable source of income.
My Goal For 2025
My plan is to generate money via X and use that money to invest in domains and still keep freelancing for a while until I have made enough or rather invested enough to ensure that if I stop freelancing, I still have a regular flow of income.
This year, I am going to be smart with my money. I will grab every opportunity to make an extra buck and save or invest it in a way that ensures my money makes more money.
I’m sure you have some plans yourself, and I hope this is the year you break free from the vicious 9-to-5 cycle to work for yourself and earn for yourself. Why make hundreds of thousands for someone else and only get paid in hundreds or thousands? Why not aim for those hundreds of thousands for yourself?
